Food Distributor and Helper

Adopted by the Food Cupboard Committee January 17, 2005; amended March 27, 2006

Appointment

The Food Cupboard Coordinator appoints a person as a Food Distributor or Helper. It is desirable that the Food Distributor/Helper has good people skills.

To be considered for appointment as a Food Distributor, at least three month’s previous experience with the Current River Churches Food Cupboard as a volunteer or Committee member; and a reference from the clergy or lay official of the church congregation that the candidate is a member of, or official of a community group that the candidate is a member of, are required.

Responsibilities

The Food Distributor and Helper(s) are to distribute food in a caring manner to clients who come for help.

Normally one Food Distributor and one Helper are scheduled on a given Tuesday, and more are scheduled when training people and at Christmas time. The Food Cupboard Coordinator will schedule them. Ideally each church will have a Food Distributor and a Helper.

The Food Distributor is authorized to make decisions on immediate situations, unless the Coordinator is present.

The Helper may also assist the Registrar.

Any information learned about clients as a result of volunteering for the Current River Churches Food Cupboard is to be kept confidential, including who accesses the Food Cupboard.

Supervision

The Coordinator is the Food Distributor’s supervisor. The Food Distributor is the Helper’s supervisor.

In the event of the Food Distributor or Helper acting in an inappropriate manner, the Coordinator should meet with him or her. If it can’t be resolved or is serious, the matter will be taken to the Food Cupboard Committee.

The appointment as the Food Distributor or Helper may be discontinued by the Coordinator for not carrying out the responsibilities and duties of the Food Distributor or Helper, and the Coordinator will consult with the Chair prior to taking this action. This decision may be appealed to the Food Cupboard Committee.
